Coming Home to Michigan

She rose from the bosom of the shallow south

Floated like a rising mist

The sun of late spring in her mouth

The tide of summer in her fist

As she descends on native land

Ripened heart and soul aglow

Combing grasses with her hands

Oaks and maples form her halo.
